Here are 2 illustrations from my Runner's Portrait Series of my friend Gabby. She ran the in the ING NYC Marathon last year for the Team for Kids Charity. Last year alone, the NYC Marathon raised over 21 million dollars for charities. Go Gabs for being  a part of that!

My First Marathon!

The day finally arrived and I was soooo nervous before the start. But that feeling quickly dissipated after I stepped onto the Verrazano. It was crazy! .... .and I want to do it again!

and....26.2 complete!The quote below by Bart Yasso sums it all up for me...“Running is about acceptance — of yourself and others. When you’re out on the trail sweating, it doesn’t matter if the guy or gal next to you works at a fast-food joint or is CEO of Kellogg’s. It doesn’t matter what color they are, or how old they are, or what religion they practice, if any at all.”

“Running celebrates our commonality. Are we human because we can run on two feet, or does running make us human? I know I feel more like myself when I run, even if it’s only a few miles, or at least I feel like the self I like best. Running inspires creativity, relieves stress, and gives us insight into ourselves and the world, making the human condition more tolerable.”

Complacency & Carbo-Loading

The day before the marathon was exciting. I went to the Javitz where the running expo was being held for runners to pick up their race bibs and goodies.
The asics booth had this great idea for runners to say goodbye to something in their lives... Your picture would be taken and then posted on a billboard in Times Square. It would read, "Hello New York, Goodbye (fill in the blank)...I chose the word 'Complacency' and of course it was spelled wrong. well, it didn't fit... haha!
For dinner, my boyfriend and I purchased tickets for the big pasta dinner @ Tavern on the Green, which I had never been to. It was like a gawdy Alice in Wonderland prom theme meets a runners convention.Nonetheless, the food was great and that's my "happy for food" smile to prove it!
